Clear film over the panels that actually take the hits. On Michigan roads that is the front end, and it is not close.
A coating is chemistry.
Film is a physical layer.
That is the difference people get talked out of. A ceramic coating is microscopically thin and does nothing against a stone. Paint protection film is a real, thick, clear urethane layer that takes the impact instead of your paint.
Which is why the honest recommendation is usually not "wrap the whole car." It is: put film where the damage actually happens, and coat the rest.
On a car that lives on US-23 or I-94, the front bumper, the leading edge of the hood, the mirrors and the rocker panels take almost all of it.
Coverage is quoted per panel once we have seen the car. Every body is a different amount of film and a different amount of work.
The paint has to be right first
Film goes on clear. Anything under it, swirls, a chip, contamination, stays there and is now sealed under a layer you paid for. We prep before we cut.
Film and coating work together
They are not competing products. Film on the impact zones, coating over the rest, is the combination most people actually want.
